NATIONAL STROKE AWARENESS MONTH
Knox Community Hospital recognizes May as National Stroke Awareness Month. Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S has a stroke. It could happen on your street, in your workplace, at a store where you shop – anywhere. Your readiness to spot the stroke warning signs and call 911 could save a life or make the difference between a full recovery and long-term disability. Amanda Wells, Stroke Program Coordinator states, “It is imperative that people recognize the signs and symptoms and call 911 immediately if they suspect they are having a stroke. These signs and symptoms can be summed up in one word – BEFAST. Sudden issues with balance, eyesight, facial drooping, one arm weaker than the other, and slurred speech are some of the main signs to not delay time and seek help immediately.” Knox Community Hospital’s Stroke Team is trained and prepared to evaluate your stroke and get you the care and treatment you need. Remember; do not delay time, but BEFAST! For more information about stroke awareness, visit https://www.cdc.gov/stroke/index.htm and to learn about the nationally recognized Stroke Program at KCH, visit https://www.kch.org/kch-stroke-program.
